Picked the spicy tweet over the private DM, got the whole timeline involved
So last Tuesday I had a screenshot of influencer Kayla Maye's burner account going after her own brand deal, and I chose to post it in the comments of her main post instead of DMing it to a gossip page. Within 3 hours her team deleted the post and then her ex-manager jumped in with receipts about a $2,000 unpaid invoice, which blew up way bigger than I expected. Would you guys have gone public with it too, or is keeping stuff in DMs the smarter move for avoiding blowback?
Back in like 2016 I watched a guy in a fantasy football group leak another guy's trade offer to the whole chat instead of just telling him no. That turned into a two week war with screenshots, group splits, and the commish quitting. The original trade was nothing, but once it went public everybody wanted a piece of it. The lesson I took was that going public never stays about the thing you posted, it becomes about everyone who piles on after. Your screenshot got her team, her ex-manager, and who knows who else involved and now the invoice thing is the story, not what Kayla did. Sometimes the DM keeps it small, but sometimes small is boring and nobody would've cared about a private message.
