Warning: BIM coordination check at the Denver site flagged something odd
Went out to the Denver job site last Tuesday to check the MEP clash report. The model showed clear pipe runs, but the real hangers were off by 6 inches against the steel. Caught it before concrete pour, but only because the foreman double checked my layer visibility. Anyone else finding gaps between the Revit model and what the crews actually frame up? How do you verify on site without slowing everyone down?

If the crew is framing hangers six inches off the steel, that is not a Revit problem, that is a layout problem, and no model is going to fix guys who are measuring from the wrong grid line. Honestly the whole premise of verifying the model against the field is backwards. The model is the plan, the field is the truth, and if they do not match, the field wins every time, so why burn hours re-checking every hanger against a screen? Pour a slab and let the plumber deal with it is how this has worked for a hundred years and buildings still stand. Every hour a guy spends walking around with an iPad is an hour he is not running pipe, and that cost hits the schedule way harder than a rework here and there. Maybe the check is not the fix. Maybe the fix is getting the layout crews to actually read the drawings before they drill.
