Overheard a contractor say my flange details were overkill, then 2 days later I saw his roof leak
He was bragging about cutting corners on a 12 inch parapet detail in a Fort Worth coffee shop, and I didn't say anything until I drove past his job site and spotted the exact same flashing failure I'd flagged for a client last month, so has anyone else had that moment where a stranger's shortcut confirmed your own redlines were worth it?
Had a guy tell me my 2x6 curb on a TPO roof was a waste of lumber and that a 2x4 would be fine. Saw his building on Camp Bowie about three months later with the whole edge peeled back like a sardine can after one hail storm. His insurance guy was up there shaking his head while I was at the light. Cost him way more than the extra boards would have. It is not even about being right, it is that we have to look at these roofs years later and live with it.
