Old CAD manager said stop using blocks, I laughed, now I owe him an apology

Five months ago a senior drafter told me to quit exploding blocks and build a proper dynamic block library instead. I ignored him because my way was faster for a one-off piping detail. Last week a client in Cleveland asked for a layout change on 23 sheets, and I spent three days redoing every single valve symbol by hand. He saw me struggling and showed me his block with visibility states, took 20 minutes to fix all 23 sheets. Tell me, do you stick with the quick messy method or invest the time upfront?
