My old boss in Milwaukee said I'd never need to learn 3D modeling for structural steel.

He insisted 2D was king and the extra detail was a waste of hours. Now I'm scrambling to learn Revit because the last three shops I bid to required full 3D submittals. Anyone else get blindsided by a shift in standard practice?

Was he in a small shop? The big projects have been 3D for years now.

I saw a behind the scenes video for the new Planet of the Apes movies. They still use tons of physical makeup and suits on set, not just CGI. It made me realize even huge blockbusters rely on practical effects artists for the actor's performances. That changed my view that everything big was fully digital now. Those artists are clearly still doing major work on the biggest films.

Wait, so you think practical effects artists only work on small stuff now? But what about all those behind the scenes videos showing them on big movie sets...
