My aunt asked if I could 'draft' her a birthday card, and I had to laugh
I was at a family gathering last weekend, and my aunt came up to me with a request. She needed a birthday card designed and thought since I'm a drafter, I must be great at drawing. I tried to tell her that drafting is about making technical drawings for buildings or machines, not artwork. She just nodded and said, 'So you can still make it pretty, right?' It was funny, but it also made me feel a bit frustrated. People often don't get that our work is precise and based on specs, not just about looking nice. Have you ever had someone totally miss what drafting is all about?

Reminds me of architects getting asked for free house sketches at parties. Everyone just assumes it's all about making pretty pictures.

Ugh, @seth838, I used to be one of those people who thought that way too. Hearing stuff like this totally changed my mind about what that work actually is.

Yeah, that "free sketches" thing @seth838 mentioned is why I always ask for a clear brief first.
