Learned to use a scale for CS checklists instead of color shading

I used to eyeball gray values on every set I did, but after a job in Portland last month where the architect called me out for a 20% difference on a door schedule, I switched to numbering layers by weight and it saves me about an hour per sheet, has anyone else made that jump?
