Drafted a detail that made the contractor do a double take

I was sketching out a new commercial kitchen layout last Tuesday and added a 3-inch offset to the main drainage run just to see how it fit... the GC walked by, stopped, and said 'wait, that's actually genius for cleaning access.' Has anyone else had a random little tweak like that turn out to be the thing everyone compliments?

Pat_coleman nailed it with that hand sink trick, that's the kind of thing that saves so much hassle down the road. The GC actually laughed and said it reminded him of an old mechanic's trick for getting at hard-to-reach oil filters, which I thought was a funny comparison but totally made sense. Little things like that offset or the faucet angle are the ones that make me feel like I'm actually doing something right, you know? They're not flashy but they keep the job clean and functional. Honestly that's the best compliment you can get from a contractor, when they stop and say 'huh, never thought of that.'

Funny you mention that - had a similar thing happen with a hand sink placement in a deli. Put the faucet on a weird angle so it could double as a pot filler for the prep table. The health inspector actually asked who spec'd it because it kept the floor dry. Little details like that are the ones nobody notices until they work perfect. What did the GC say about the cleaning access?

Agree with @pat_coleman on that hand sink trick, that's a smart one. It's funny how a lot of design problems are really just about finding those hidden shortcuts, like in normal life whenever I rearrange furniture or something, the best spot is never the obvious one. Makes me wonder if good design is just seeing the path nobody else looks at.
