After 6 years of hating on digital calipers, a machinist friend showed me how mine were off by 0.005 and now I get it.
He measured the same block with his Mitutoyo and mine back to back and the difference was enough to throw off a whole fitup, so has anyone else had their old methods fail them on something simple like this?

Oh come on, is half a thousandth really gonna make or break most jobs? I'd bet half the people on here couldn't even measure within a thou with their eyes closed.

Oh, so we're pretending the decimal places on a mic don't matter now? Tell that to the guy whose engine block ends up a hair too tight because he trusted his "feel" over a tenth indicator. @john_cooper, I bet your feeler gauges also double as a mood ring.
