Tried to save $50 by patching my own drywall last weekend
Bought the wrong mud, used a spatula instead of a proper knife, and now my living room wall looks like a topographic map. Has anyone else ended up with a worse mess trying to DIY a simple fix?

Man, I got a buddy who tried the same thing. He figured drywall mud was all the same. Ended up with this lumpy mess that looked like someone punched the wall from the inside. Took him three weekends to sand it all down and start over. Plus he dropped a whole bucket of mud on his carpet. Said he learned his lesson the hard way. Now he just calls a handyman for anything with sheetrock.

Ha! Topographic map is generous. Sounds more like you built a relief sculpture of the moon by accident. At least now you have a good story about how a 50 dollar lesson cost you 150 in materials and your dignity.
