Tried to patch a hole in my drywall and ended up with a new window
So I was in my hallway last Saturday, trying to fix this dime-sized hole from a doorknob. I got out the spackle, did the whole sanding thing, and then I realized I'd pushed too hard and the spackle just fell right through into the wall. Turns out there was a whole soft spot behind it from a old leak. Long story short, after about 3 hours of cutting and swearing, I now have a 2-foot by 2-foot hole that I'm staring at. My wife walked by and asked if I was planning on putting a window in. I just laughed. Ended up calling my buddy Tom who does construction, and he talked me through putting in a patch with some plywood backing. It's not pretty but it's covered with a picture frame now. Anyone else ever turn a tiny repair into a full weekend project?

@nancy475 my buddy Dave did that with a light switch last year. Ended up rewiring his whole kitchen.

Oh come on, three hours for a dime-sized hole? I patched a similar doorknob ding last month with some spackle and a butter knife. Took maybe ten minutes and it's still holding up fine. You sure you weren't looking for an excuse to avoid painting the baseboards or something? Now you've got a framed picture over a plywood patch that'll probably sag in six months.
