Thought I could patch drywall with toothpaste. Yeah, that was dumb.

Had a small hole in the wall from a doorknob. Didn't want to buy spackle. Used white toothpaste instead. It looked okay for a day. Then it cracked and fell out. The hole got bigger. Now I have to fix it right.

Yeah, the part about it looking okay for a day is the real trap. Toothpaste never really dries hard like spackle. It stays kinda soft and flexible, so as the wall moves a tiny bit or the air dries it out, it just crumbles. It's basically just wet powder. For a super quick fix next time, a tiny bit of white soap or even just stuffing the hole with a piece of paper towel can work better than toothpaste until you get real spackle.

My toothpaste fix lasted a whole year before it fell out.
