The week my basement flooded I actually got lucky

Last spring a pipe burst in the wall and dumped 40 gallons into my finished basement before I caught it. Turns out the water pressure exposed a crack in the foundation I never would have found otherwise, so I fixed both problems for under $200 total. Has anyone else had a disaster turn into a hidden blessing like that?

Has this ever happened to someone else here where something bad actually saved you money in the long run? Tbh I had a similar thing with a leaky roof last year, it forced me to fix some rotted beams I never would have spotted otherwise. Ngl it was a nightmare at first but I ended up spending way less than if I'd ignored it for another year.

Yeah, my water heater busted about three years ago and flooded half the basement. Ended up ripping out that old linoleum and putting in tile I actually like. Cost me about what I would've spent just replacing the carpet I hated anyway.
