That one guy at Home Depot tried to sell me the wrong glue for laminate

I was at the Home Depot on St. Mary's Road last month grabbing supplies for my kitchen counter fix. Random guy in the aisle told me to use regular wood glue on my laminate edge banding. Said he'd been doing it for years. I almost listened until a worker walked by and said that glue would bubble up in 2 days flat. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from strangers in hardware stores?

Had this guy at Lowe's once try to sell me wood filler for patching drywall. Said it'd be fine. My wall still looks like a golf ball two years later. I mean, maybe it's just me but I always check with the old timer at the register now, not the random aisle walkers.

Guy at my local store told me to use gorilla tape on a PVC pipe once.
