Spent 3 months fixing a squeaky floor only to find it was a loose nail the whole time
I tore up carpet, pulled up subflooring, even added extra joist blocking. After all that work, I pushed on a spot near the baseboard and heard a tiny pop. One nail from a previous repair was just sitting in there loose. Has anyone else gone way overboard on a simple fix?

Sometimes the REAL fix is just accepting your house has character, not perfection.

That $200 tool and @annas87's comment are basically the same thing - we all keep buying into the idea that having the right thing will finally fix everything, when really it just becomes another thing sitting in the garage.
