Pro tip: Don't cheap out on paint sprayer tip guards

I spent $60 on a new paint sprayer tip guard last month for my kitchen cabinets and it clogged after 2 gallons because I bought the cheap generic one instead of the brand name. Wasted almost 5 hours cleaning that thing out and respraying spots where it sputtered. Has anyone else had luck with aftermarket tips or should I just eat the extra $40 for the OEM part?

Man that stings. I did the same thing last year painting a dresser and ended up looking like I got attacked by a angry spackle bucket. The cheap guard left so many drips and skips that I had to sand the whole thing down and start over. My wife still brings it up every time I pick up a tool. Honestly the $40 difference is nothing compared to the time you lose cleaning out the cheap one and fixing all the mess it makes. Just go OEM and treat yourself to a coffee with what you saved in frustration. Your cabinets will thank you when they don't look like a Jackson Pollock painting.

You ever try using a 5-in-1 tool to scrape your way through a bad spray shield? I feel your pain @johnson.jason, but honestly the trick is to run a thin line of painters caulk along the edge of the guard before you start. Keeps the drips from sneaking under and saves you from sanding a whole dresser down. I learned that after my third time fighting with a HF special. Just buy the good one once and never worry about it again.
