My son decided to 'fix' the leaky faucet while I was at work.

Came home to find every towel in the house soaked and a wrench stuck in the pipe. Now I have a plumbing lesson and a very proud five-year-old on my hands.

Notice how this kind of thing happens all the time with little kids. They see a problem and jump in to solve it, no matter the cost. In my view, it's a sign of their curiosity and want to help, even if it backfires. You get a plumbing lesson now, but he'll remember helping for years, your mileage may vary. It's one of those parenting moments that's equal parts frustration and pride, from my experience.

But how do you teach them when to ask for help instead of just jumping in? I see where @wendy_roberts22 is coming from with the curiosity angle, but a five year old with a wrench could have gotten really hurt. That kind of fix-it energy needs some grown-up guidance so they learn limits. It's not just about the mess, it's about keeping them safe from real danger. Pride is one thing, but a flooded house or injury isn't a good lesson.

What's your go-to method for setting those limits?
