My neighbor's 2x4 trick saved my sagging gate after 5 tries

Old Mr. Delgado watched me struggle with the same gate hinge for three hours in Austin and finally said "you're fighting the wood grain, not the screws," then showed me how to predrill at an angle and countersink, anyone else had a random passerby fix something you'd been stuck on for weeks?

Damn, THREE HOURS on one hinge? I would've yeeted that whole gate into the sun by minute thirty lol. Old man Delgado must have the patience of a saint watching you fight it that long.

My grandpa once spent a whole Saturday trying to get a stuck bolt loose on an old tractor, and by the time he was done he had renamed that wrench every swear word in the book. He finally gave up and just cut the dang thing off with a torch. @kaid59, you're right that patience is one thing, but stubbornness is a whole different animal, and some folks treat it like a badge of honor. The real kicker is he found out later the bolt was reverse threaded the whole time. We still bring that up at every family cookout. Three hours on a hinge sounds about right for that kind of energy, honestly. At least you didn't have to hear him yell at a piece of metal for an hour straight.
