My neighbor said to use a cheap putty knife for scraping up old vinyl flooring and it was a huge mistake.

He told me, 'Just get the $2 one, they're all the same.' After about ten minutes of scraping, the blade bent and the handle cracked. I ended up having to buy a proper heavy-duty scraper for $15 anyway, which made the whole job go three times faster. Wasted an hour and a few bucks on the bad advice. Has anyone else found a specific scraper that holds up well for this kind of job?

That "they're all the same" line is the worst advice. I had a similar thing happen trying to use a cheap paint scraper on thick glue. The right tool for the job really does make all the difference, even if it costs a bit more upfront.

Maybe @sarah829 just has a grudge against glue.

My dad always said a cheap tool costs you twice, once when you buy it and again when you replace it lol.
