Mentioned to my neighbor about refinishing deck boards and he went off

Last Saturday I was out in my backyard in Tacoma sanding down some old cedar planks for a repaint, and my neighbor Joe walks over and starts telling me his whole story about how he used a pressure washer wrong and gouged his deck. He said 'I ruined my whole summer project in ten minutes flat and had to replace six boards.' Has anyone else had a neighbor suddenly unload their whole home project history on you while you're just trying to work?

I mean c'mon, is it really that big a deal if you gouge a few boards? Pressure washers are tricky but it's not like you're rebuilding the whole deck from scratch. Replacing six boards sounds more like an excuse to upgrade to better cedar or composite than a tragedy. People get so dramatic about their home projects like they're brain surgeons or something. Maybe it's just me but I'd probably just flip the boards and call it a day.
