Hot take: rubber mulch was a waste of my weekend and my back

Everyone on here swears by rubber mulch for playground areas, but I spent 9 hours hauling 40 bags of the stuff around my backyard in Austin and it still looks like a sad tire graveyard. The shredded rubber holds heat like a blacktop in July and it floats out of the beds in the first heavy rain. I pulled it all out last month and went back to plain wood chips from the local supply yard, cheaper and easier to move. Anybody else regret going the rubber route, or did I just buy a bad batch from the big box store?
