Hated the idea of those magnetic stud finders for years
My dad swore by the old needle style ones, so I thought the magnetic ones were a gimmick until I borrowed my neighbor's in Austin last weekend and found 3 studs in under 2 minutes. Has anyone else switched over from the classic models?

Ngl the needle style is just more reliable than some fancy magnetic toy.

Waited 20 years for a magnetic stud finder and my first one just kept sticking to every nail in the drywall. Went back to the manual kind same week.

Oh man, that is such a bummer. I totally get why you went back to the manual kind after that nonsense. It's like the whole point of a stud finder is to not stick to every little nail holding up the drywall, right? I had a similar letdown with a digital one that just beeped at me for no reason all the time. Sometimes the old simple tools really are the best way to go.
