Had to pick between a $90 auger rental and a $15 post hole digger for 12 fence posts

My yard in Austin is mostly caliche clay, so I figured the gas auger from Home Depot would save my back. After 2 hours of wrestling that thing through rocks and roots, I gave up and drove back for the manual digger. It took me 3 full afternoons by hand, but honestly the workout was worth it and the holes came out straighter. Anyone else regret renting power equipment when the cheap tool does the job with patience?
