Found out I was painting walls wrong for 10 years after a guy at Home Depot asked me one question

He asked if I was back-rolling my primer and I said no, so he showed me the difference on a scrap piece of drywall and the coverage was night and day, has anyone else had a random stranger fix their whole process like that?

wait till you find out you're supposed to sand between primer and paint too. i painted my whole basement without sanding and it looked like garbage. neighbor saw me doing it and was like "dude you gotta knock down the nibs first" and handed me a pole sander. felt like an idiot but now my walls actually look smooth lol

Oh man, @caleb262, you just described my exact first painting disaster - I did a whole bedroom and didn't sand between anything, just slapped paint on bare drywall and wondered why it felt like sandpaper. My buddy came over and handed me a sanding sponge and I felt about two inches tall but the difference was night and day after I went back over it. Now sanding between coats is basically my favorite step just because I don't want to deal with that rough texture ever again.

Man I wish someone had told me about back-rolling sooner. My whole first house had that patchy look where the roller marks showed through. Random guy at the paint counter just grabbed a mini roller and showed me the difference on a scrap board. Now I do it every time and it saves me a coat of paint.
