Unpopular opinion: That cafe in Chiang Mai with the 'fast wifi' sign is a total trap for nomads.

I set up there for a full workday last Tuesday, bought three coffees, and the connection dropped during a client call at 2pm. The owner just shrugged and said 'sometimes it's like that.' I lost the contract because I couldn't rejoin the video meeting. Now I never trust a sign, I always run a speed test for 5 minutes before I even order. Anyone have a solid backup spot in the Old City that actually works?

Running a speed test first is the only way I trust a place now.

My last hotel advertised free high speed wifi. I tried to load a simple weather map and it took three minutes. Now I open the Speedtest app before I even take my jacket off. It saved me from a video call disaster at a coffee shop last week. Their signal was strong but the actual speed was less than 1 Mbps.

Always check the upload speed too, not just download.
