Three weeks chasing a visa in Thailand, still got it wrong
Tbh I thought the whole digital nomad visa thing was just a quick trip to immigration. Spent 3 weeks in Chiang Mai bouncing between offices, got told my income proof from PayPal wasn't valid, and ended up paying 2,000 baht for an agent to sort it in a day. Has anyone else had a country's rules change on them mid-application?

The 2000 baht agent shortcut is honestly the real lesson here. I did the same thing in Bali when they suddenly wanted a bank statement stamped by my home embassy, which was obviously impossible from a hostel. Paid a local fixer 1500k rupiah and he had my kitas sorted in 48 hours, same day my old visa expired. The rule changes mid-application thing happened to me in Mexico City too, they added a new form the week I applied, so I just treat any visa process now as a backup plan plus a local agent's number in my phone before I even land.
