The Chiang Mai co-working desk that came with a surprise landlord meeting

Last month I booked a hot desk for 3 days and found out the building owner was a retired accountant who runs a meetup for nomads every Thursday, he showed me his spreadsheet of visa runs and now I'm trying his 6 month route through Malaysia instead of my usual Bali loop, has anyone else found better local advice by just asking the wrong person?
