My laptop hinge snapped mid-flight above Chicago yesterday
I was typing notes for a client project on my 3 year old laptop when the screen just flopped back with a loud crack. Turns out the plastic around the hinge bracket had gotten brittle from all the temperature changes. Has anyone else had this happen and found a cheap place to get it fixed while on the road?

Yo same thing happened to my dell last year except it was on a Greyhound bus in the middle of nowhere Nevada. The plastic just crumbled like old cheese. I found a random computer repair shop near the bus station that charged me like 80 bucks to superglue and clamp the hinge back together. It wasn't pretty but it held for another 6 months till I could get a new laptop. Definitely check Yelp for local repair shops that do hinge repairs on the spot.

Man that is a rough spot to have a laptop fall apart. I had a similar nightmare with my old HP a couple years back, the hinge just gave up on a road trip. I stopped at a tiny shop in a strip mall and the guy there did the same thing with superglue and some kind of plastic filler. Cost me like 60 bucks and it honestly lasted longer than I expected, maybe 8 months before the screen started wobbling again. The trick is finding a place that does it right away, not one that wants to order parts and keep it for a week. Yelp is your friend for this, filter by "same day repair" or "hinge fix" and call ahead to make sure they can do it while you wait.
