Hot take: I think having a backup plan for your backup plan is overkill, but my laptop died in Chiang Mai last month and I had to use my phone for a full client presentation.

I was at a cafe in Chiang Mai with a client call in 15 minutes when my laptop just shut off and wouldn't turn back on, so I had to quickly pull up all my slides on my phone and do the whole thing from there, which actually went fine, but has anyone else had their main gear fail and had to improvise like that?

My old laptop battery gave out right before a big meeting in Bangkok two years ago. I had to use a tablet I only brought for reading, and it was a real scramble to get my files over. Your story about Chiang Mai hits close to home because that feeling of panic is so specific. It sounds like you handled it way better than I did. Stuff like this makes me keep my important files in at least two different cloud spots now, just in case.

Maybe cloud storage just adds another thing to worry about.

Actually, the battery dying is what cloud storage helps avoid. If your laptop fails, you can just log into your account from any other device. The real worry is forgetting your password or the service shutting down.
