Appreciation post: switching from paper to a cheap tablet for note-taking on the road

I used to carry three notebooks everywhere I went when I was working from cafes in Chiang Mai last year. They'd get wet, pages would tear, and I'd lose half my client meeting notes. Then I bought a $60 Android tablet off FB Marketplace and started using a free notes app with cloud backup. Now I can search through six months of ideas in seconds instead of flipping through damp pages. Has anyone else made the switch from analog to digital on the move?

Wait, did your tablet cost $60 and actually work for notes?

...and honestly I think people overthink what they need for basic note taking. A $60 tablet from a few years back can handle notes fine if the screen is decent and you get a cheap stylus. I mean, sure you're not gonna run Photoshop or edit video on it. But for jotting down ideas, marking up PDFs, basic stuff like that? It probably works just as good as the new $800 models. Only real question is battery life and whether the app store has a note app you actually like using.
