Why I hate quick lube shops for diesel trucks

They always over-tighten the filter and strip the threads.

My Ford F-250 has been to three different quick lubes in the last year. Not one of them stripped the threads on the filter. Maybe you got a bad tech, but is it really that common? I've seen guys at these shops use torque wrenches sometimes. It's not all ham-fisted work. Stripped threads suck, but blaming all quick lubes seems over the top. Most just want to get the job done right to avoid comebacks.

I worked at a Jiffy Lube for two summers and we never once touched a torque wrench. The manager pushed us to finish cars in under 15 minutes, so you just crank the filter until it feels tight. The problem isn't one bad tech, it's the whole business model built on speed. A stripped oil pan on a common Civic can cost over $500 to fix, which I saw happen twice a month.

Twice a month on just Civics?
