Vent: I put a 3rd gen Cummins turbo on a 12 valve just to see what would happen
Honestly, it spooled up way faster than I expected and actually gave me better low end than the old setup. Anyone else messed with a weird swap like that?

Wait, is that even safe for the engine long term? I'd be worried about messing up the fuel mapping or something.

Totally, @cooper.phoenix, you can fry the ECU and wreck the whole fuel system.

Forget just frying the ECU, you can melt pistons if the fuel can't keep up with that new air. The factory injection pump on a 12 valve is mechanical, so it doesn't have a MAP sensor to know you added a bigger turbo. You'll be running dangerously lean under boost without adjusting the fuel screw or adding an aftermarket fuel plate. That lean condition is what cooks engines, not just some computer error. It's a killer setup IF you match the fuel delivery to the new turbo's airflow.
