Took 3 tries before I found out you can tap a stick welder on the battery terminal to reset a dead ECU on a 94 Cummins

Truck wouldn't crank after I swapped injectors and I was about to pull the harness. Buddy at a shop in Bakersfield told me to just tap the positive lead on the battery post for a split second. Has anyone else done this or is it just a thing for older mechanical pump trucks?

Whoa, yeah I've definitely done that trick myself. It's a weird old school mechanic thing that works on a lot of those older Cummins trucks. The idea is you're just giving the ECU a hard power cycle to clear any glitchy memory. I've seen it fix weird no-start issues after injector work more than once. Your mileage may vary but for a 94 it's a totally safe and common thing. Just don't hold it too long, a quick tap is all you need.

My buddy out in Bakersfield used to say that same trick works on old dryers and washing machines too, just a quick jolt to reset their boards... seems like half the stuff we own just needs a hard power cycle to work again.
