Stopped torquing oil drain plugs by feel after a 2019 Duramax bite me
I used to just snug drain plugs with a ratchet and call it good, figured torque wrenches were for engine builds. Last spring I was doing an oil change on a fleet F-350 in Phoenix and the pan cracked at 38 ft-lbs, which was only what my wrist said. The customer had to wait two days for a new pan and I ate the $210 labor. Now I use a clicker on every plug, even the easy ones. Anyone else have a torque-by-feel story that ended in a headache?
