Snap-on vs Harbor Freight torque wrench on a 6.0 head bolt, and I feel dumb for waiting
Spent last Saturday pulling heads on a 6.0 Powerstroke and grabbed the $20 Pittsburgh wrench off the shelf instead of my Snap-on because I was in a hurry. The HF one clicked at 245 ft-lbs dead on all 20 bolts, checked it against my buddy's calibrator after and it was off by less than 2%. Anyone else running cheap torque wrenches on critical stuff or am I asking for trouble?
Borrowed a buddy's Icon clicker for a 6.0 head job last year and he made me check it on the calibrator first, which turned out to be smart because the thing was 8% off out of the box. Sent it back, got a replacement, that one held within 1% through the whole job and a few more since. The cheap ones are hit or miss, so the calibrator check is really the whole game. Yours landed in the good batch and you saved a couple hundred bucks, that's a win. Just don't get comfy and skip the check on the next one.
