Shoutout to the old timer who showed me the soap trick for finding air leaks

Honestly, I thought the guy was just messing with me when he said to use a spray bottle of soapy water. That was three years ago at the shop in Tacoma. I was chasing a rough idle on a 6.7 Powerstroke for two days, checking sensors and lines. I finally tried his dumb trick, sprayed the intake boots, and saw bubbles instantly at a tiny crack. Has anyone else got a simple fix that actually works like that?

Wait, you don't use grease on bolt threads for squeaks, that's for anti-seize.

My grandpa taught me the same trick for finding a slow leak in a bike tube when I was a kid. It's funny how the simplest solutions get passed down and actually work. I see it with using a dab of grease on a bolt thread to stop a squeak too. Those old school fixes have a kind of quiet wisdom to them.
