Old timer laughed at me for using a torque wrench on oil drain plugs

Was in Billings, Montana helping a guy with his Freightliner and he literally swatted my hand away, saying "son that plug ain't a spaceship part." He hand-tightened it with a cheater bar and it never leaked - has anyone else run into old-school guys who think torque wrenches are a waste on routine stuff?

Hang on, is torquing a drain plug really that big of a deal either way? I get being careful, but it's a crush washer and a bolt, not a head gasket. Seems like a lot of internet drama over something that's either gonna drip or it ain't.

Agree with @the_thomas honestly its one of those things where people overthink simple stuff because they watched too many youtube videos. Same energy as people arguing about what order to put windshield wiper fluid in or some crap lol.

Honestly @patricia_schmidt14 I gotta call out that windshield wiper fluid thing because people actually do put them in wrong sometimes lol. The blue stuff and the orange stuff don't mix well and can clog up your sprayers if you just dump em together. But yeah your main point is right people blow simple stuff way out of proportion like arguing over which way to face your oil filter or if you need to prime a fuel pump after changing it. It's just basic stuff that's been done for decades before youtube existed.
