My uncle told me to always use a torque wrench on injector caps, and he was right after I cracked one on a 6.7 Powerstroke.

I thought I could feel it, but the spec was 18 ft-lbs and I went over by maybe 5, which cost me a $90 part and a whole afternoon.

Man, I used to be the guy who thought a good calibrated elbow was all you needed. How hard could it be to just feel it out, right? Stories like yours are what finally got me to buy a decent torque wrench. It's crazy how just a little bit over can wreck something that seems so solid. That's a tough lesson to learn the hard way.
