My stubborn refusal to use a borescope on that 6.7 Powerstroke cost me a full day of diag
I was convinced the rough idle was just injector harness related, but after 8 hours of chasing wires I finally caved and found a cracked piston crown staring back at me on the screen, so what's the one tool you guys put off buying that ended up being a total game-changer?

That "stubborn refusal" line hits way too close to home. I did the exact same thing for years with a good vacuum gauge, swore my manifold gauge set was fine. Finally bought one and it cut diag time on AC work in half, felt like a total idiot.

Man, you ever see a buddy fight with a job for way too long? My friend Mike swore he could set timing on his old Honda by ear and a test light. He'd spend a whole weekend, car would still run like garbage. He finally got a cheap timing light on sale, hooked it up, and had it dialed in like twenty minutes later. The look on his face was pure defeat, but also relief.

Why do we always think we're the one person who can outsmart the right tool? It's like a weird pride thing that just wastes your whole weekend. The right tool isn't cheating, it's just the answer. That relief on his face is paying the idiot tax and finally being done with it.
