My old boss swore by a torch for frozen brake lines, but a heat gun from Harbor Freight saved my knuckles

We had a '96 Ford F-250 with a seized line on the rear axle. My boss, a guy who's been turning wrenches since the '70s, insisted the only way was a small torch and a lot of patience. I tried it his way first and nearly rounded the fitting off. For $35, I grabbed a basic heat gun, focused it on the fitting for about two minutes, and the line came loose with a normal wrench. The controlled heat made all the difference. Has anyone else found a simple tool that beat out an old-school 'tried and true' method?

Saved my knuckles" sounds like a bit much for a simple stuck bolt.

My uncle once called a stuck bolt simple, right before the wrench slipped and he needed seven stitches. The emergency room doctor said it was the cleanest knuckle fracture he'd seen all month. Sometimes the tool that feels like overkill is just the right amount of prevention. I've had bolts come loose with a gentle tap and others that fought like they were welded in place. You really never know until you're already committed.

My buddy learned that lesson the hard way, just like @the_luna's uncle.
