I finally gave up on that aftermarket fuel filter housing for my Duramax
Had a customer's truck die on the highway last Tuesday, towed it in with a no-start. Traced it to the cheap aluminum housing I put on six months ago, it cracked right at the thermostat port and dumped all the fuel. I swapped it back to a stock unit yesterday and it fired right up. Anyone else had a similar failure with those shiny aftermarket parts?

Hold on, I've had the opposite experience. My aftermarket housing has been solid for two years now through some pretty rough winters. Maybe it's a quality control thing with certain brands, or maybe the install torque matters more than people think. I wouldn't write them all off just because a few fail.

Wait, it cracked at the thermostat port? That's wild, I always figured the threads would strip first. Makes me wonder if the metal is just junk that can't handle the heat cycles. Seeing @owens.cameron only got three weeks is crazy too, I mean that's basically instant failure. I guess the shiny stuff is just for looks, which is a real bummer when it leaves you stranded. Maybe it's just me but I'm sticking with the boring stock parts from now on.
