Had to pick between a rebuilt injector or a new one on a 6.0 Powerstroke last month
I went with the new one even though it cost $120 more, and the truck finally stopped smoking on cold starts. Has anyone else seen rebuilt injectors fail faster than new ones?

Man I did the SAME thing on my 6.0 about a year ago and honestly I think rebuilt injectors are just a roll of the dice. I had a buddy who bought a set of reman ones off a big name supplier and they all failed within 6 months, one of them actually cracked the nozzle and sent metal through the whole fuel system. That was a nightmare to clean up. I went with new injectors from the dealer even though my wallet cried about it for a week. But the peace of mind is worth it when you're not wondering if the truck is gonna smoke out your whole driveway every morning. Plus with a 6.0 you already have enough problems without cheaping out on fuel parts if you ask me.

Reminds me of the old saying "buy once, cry once" applies to just about everything these days. Cars, tools, even lawnmowers if you cheap out on parts you end up paying for it twice. Made that mistake too many times myself before learning the hard way. You got any other experiences like that where going cheap bit you in the wallet later?

Wait wait wait, SENT METAL THROUGH THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM? That's like a literal nightmare, I didn't even know that could happen with injectors. I always figured a bad one just makes it run rough or smoke, not turn into a grenade inside your engine. I can't imagine chasing down all that metal debris, having to flush the rails and the pump too probably, that's a full tear down job right there.
