Fuel additive hype is mostly snake oil, here's my proof from 8 months of testing
Everyone in my shop swears by that winter additive for the big rigs. I ran a controlled test last winter on two identical 2022 Freightliners running the same routes between Billings and Cheyenne. One got the additive every fill, the other got nothing. Tracked fuel filters, injector issues, and cold start complaints for 4 months straight. The treated truck actually had one more filter change than the untreated one. Both started fine down to -20F. I know my sample size is tiny, but the locals act like not using it will grenade your motor. Has anyone else actually run a side by side or are we all just repeating what the parts store guy tells us?
The "grenade your motor" thing is the same scare tactic the parts store pushes every fall, and your filter data backs up what most of us already suspect. Save your money and keep running that untreated truck, it clearly doesn't care about the cold.
