Debate: Do you pull injectors hot or wait for them to cool down?

I was swapping injectors on a C15 in a shop outside Reno last month, pulled one hot and the threads came with it, but my partner says waiting for cool costs too much downtime. Which side do you land on when the clock is ticking and the head is still ticking?

Did your buddy ever have a 3406B spit hot fuel oil back in his face? Tbh, I'd rather wait ten minutes than deal with what happened to my friend Mike up near Tacoma. He was rushing through an injector swap on an ISX in a yard truck and pulled one hot. The thing basically welded itself to the cup and he ended up cracking the injector sleeve trying to get it out. Cost him half a day and a lot of swearing to helicoil the hole. Ngl, that downtime was way worse than just letting it cool for a bit. So yeah, I land hard on the cool side.

That injector cup story reminds me of the time I melted my work boots standing too close to a hot engine.

Man that Mike story is rough, I feel for him. @wilson.kelly at least your boots will grow back, a cracked sleeve is a whole different level of bad luck.
