18 years turning wrenches and I just learned I was torquing wet bolts wrong

Been doing fleet work outside of Tulsa since 2007. About 3 weeks ago a new hire was watching me use a torque wrench on a wet bolt suspension link and asked why I wasn't checking the wrench in dry mode first. I had no idea the torque spec changes when the threads are lubed. Turns out my readings were off by close to 15 percent on every job I ever did where I used penetrating oil. The manual for our Eaton hubs says it right there and I never read that page. Anyone else find out they were skipping a basic step for years?

Fifteen percent off for 18 years? That one hurt just reading it. I've done the same thing with my own tools but never checked the exact math, so I get the sick feeling in your stomach when you realize it. Did the new guy show you the page or did you have to dig for it yourself?
