Metal one was out of stock for 2 weeks so I grabbed the cheap PVC, and at 6 months in it's already cracked and leaking at the base. Anyone else had luck with a specific brand that isn't the 8 dollar one, or am I just pulling the toilet again in a year either way?
Did your friend happen to buy the Oatey one from Home Depot? Mine did the same thing last spring, cracked right where the bolts sit after maybe 8 months. He swapped it for a Sioux Chief metal ring model and it's been solid for two years now, cost him around 25 bucks. The plastic ones just can't handle the bolt torque when you set the toilet back down.
