Went to a 7pm showing in Austin and the theater played a deleted scene instead of the ending
Honestly I was at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar last Friday for a retro screening of Aliens and something weird happened. Right when the finale should have started, the screen cut to the colony scene with Newt's family finding the derelict ship, which is a real deleted scene from the 1986 special edition. I pulled out my phone and checked the runtime, we were 6 minutes off, so the projectionist had loaded the wrong cut of the film. Tbh I was not even mad because half the room cheered when they saw the ship, but now I am wondering how often theaters mix up the theatrical and extended versions. Has anyone else had a theater accidentally play the wrong cut like this?
Did you know some projectors still use actual film reels for these retro shows? I read a while back that Alamo has a whole team that checks the reels before each screening, so this was probably just a mixup with the special edition print.
