Warning: The deleted scene on that DVD set is a whole different ending

Bought the 4K collector set of that sci-fi movie from 2019 last weekend because I wanted the featurettes. Popped in disc 2 and there is a 12 minute alternate ending buried in the special features menu, not labeled as deleted but as a 'extended cut test'. Turns out the main character survives the whole thing and the studio cut it because test audiences hated seeing him live. I watched it twice and now I can't even enjoy the theatrical version. How do you guys handle seeing an alternate ending that makes the released one feel like the wrong choice? Has anyone else had a similar surprise hidden in a menu?
