Vent: Had to choose between the theatrical ending and the deleted ending for The Descent and I still think about it

Back when I first saw The Descent on DVD around 2007, the menu had both endings. I watched the theatrical one first where she gets out of the cave. Then I watched the deleted ending where she stays in the cave with the hallucinations of her dead husband. I picked the deleted ending as my favorite. Felt darker and more real. But every time I talk to someone about the movie they go with the happy one. Am I weird for liking the downer version more? Anyone else stick with the alternate ending on a movie and feel like you're the only one?

and honestly I think the deleted ending actually makes more sense for her character arc because she was never really about revenge in the original cut, she just wanted closure lol. like in the deleted scenes she even says to her brother that she forgives him and that's way more powerful than the whole dramatic showdown they went with instead. plus the lighting is way creepier in the deleted version with that weird blue filter they used.

the blue filter you mentioned is actually super interesting, but nobody talks about how the deleted ending fixes a big character problem with the mom. in the theatrical cut she just shows up at the end like nothing happened, but in the deleted scenes she has this quiet moment where she's crying in the hallway while the brother is packing his bags. it makes her feel like a real person instead of just a plot device. plus that weird blue filter makes everything feel cold and lonely which fits the whole forgiveness theme way better than the orange glow they used in the final version. that orange lighting felt too warm and safe for what was supposed to be a heavy emotional moment.
