Used to skip deleted scenes on blu-rays until I saw the extended cut of that robot movie from last year
The theatrical version left out a whole subplot explaining why the main character's partner turned against them, and after watching a fan edit on YouTube that spliced those scenes back in, I realized the studio butchered the emotional payoff for a shorter runtime - has anyone else found a deleted scene that completely changed how you felt about a character?

Yeah, that robot movie thing is a good example. But I gotta gently push back on calling it a "fan edit on YouTube" that spliced those scenes back in. The movie you're talking about had an official extended cut released on blu-ray a few months after the theatrical version. The fan edits were mostly people trying to recreate that cut from the deleted scenes menu, but the pacing was always off because the deleted scenes weren't color graded or mixed right. I actually own the official extended cut and the difference is night and day. The partner's betrayal makes way more sense with the extra subplot about the military contractor being shady. It's like the studio thought audiences couldn't handle a 15 minute longer runtime, which is funny since most of us would watch a 3 hour version of that movie no problem.

Is the pacing actually better in the official cut, or does it still drag in parts? I've been on the fence about tracking down a copy because I heard the added scenes slow things down even more lol.

Did @wesley_martin catch that fan edit too, because my buddy spent a whole weekend arguing with his roommate about the pacing of those spliced scenes.
